  • Much like Nita Ambani and Victoria Beckham, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star loves the Hermès Birkin – so much so that she wears them on her feet
  • MSCHF takes Birkin bags and uses them as raw materials for the limited edition Birkinstock sandals, which go for US$34,000 to US$76,000 a pop

Much like Nita Ambani, Kylie Jenner’s love for the coveted Hermès Birkin is well known. In 2019, she got five of the bags for Christmas, and is often seen with a Birkin in tow while on outings. So it perhaps comes as no surprise that she recently got her hands on the much touted “Birkinstocks”.

Jenner flaunted her new pair of sandals by MSCHF – which are designed after the Birkenstock shoes, but created completely from Hermès Birkin bags – on an Instagram story. The black, strappy sandals feature gold buckles and pebbled leather and were neatly packed inside an Hermès-style orange box. Her post read, “Thanks @mschf”, indicating that they were probably a gift.

“Historically we make luxury objects out of inherently valuable materials,” the brand commented on the shoes in a statement. “We can look to the Birkin bag itself as the new luxury raw material par excellence. Birkinstocks, though, are no collaboration; perhaps we might more properly call them transubstantiation.”

Unless you’re like Jenner, who can expect the shoes gift-wrapped and sent straight to her doorstep, you can expect to shell out a pretty penny for them. The limited edition sandals are available to purchase on request only, with prices ranging from US$34,000 to US$76,000.
