Why did Chanel recreate a ski holiday for Paris Fashion Week? Nightclubs might be closed, but the French maison staged a digital show at Mick Jagger and Karl Lagerfeld’s legendary 70s hangout Castel

- The French luxury brand was one of many that eschewed a live runway show due to Covid-19 this year, instead unveiling its autumn/winter 2021 looks in a film
- Chunky coats with sheer dresses and bodysuits, and baggy jeans with sequins, are just a few of the contrasting looks designer Virginie Viard created
Ski lifts may be closed in France due to Covid-19 restrictions, but Chanel recreated a winter resort ambience on Tuesday (March 9) with a collection featuring quilted salopettes and faux fur boots fit for a night out after hitting the slopes.

Flitting between black and white sequences shot on the streets of Paris to bursts of colour from the dance floor of Castel, a nightclub favoured by the fashion crowd, Chanel presented an eclectic mix of styles and fabrics.

Designer Virginie Viard said in show notes that she was inspired by contrasts, and the collection featured chunky coats paired with sheer dresses and bodysuits as well as bandeau tops in the brand’s traditional tweed.
The ski theme infused looks throughout, from knitted jumpers with snowflake motifs to the woollen beanie hats sported by some models, adorned with camellias, another Chanel emblem.
