Who were the best and worst dressed at the Grammys? K-pop’s BTS wore matching Louis Vuitton, Harry Styles donned Gucci (and a feather boa), and Beyoncé and Taylor Swift wowed with leather and florals

The 63rd Grammy Awards was held in Los Angeles on March 14. This year’s ceremony was not short of drama and talking points with Justin Bieber and The Weeknd boycotting the awards over doubts about the nomination process, while Beyoncé made history with her 28th win and Taylor Swift took home six awards for her lockdown album Folklore.

While only a handful of celebrities attended the red carpet, with others taking part through live feeds, the event always spawns plenty of discussion about who hit the fashion high notes and whose couture sense was out of tune.

Here’s our verdict on this year’s best and worst dressed stars at the Grammys.

The ones we hated: Doja Cat

One of the biggest fashion misses at the ceremony: Doja Cat and her Roberto Cavalli dress. The thick leather top and furry feather bottom did not really match, while the wide-open front down to her belly was more oversharing than sexy.

Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers seemed keen to get Halloween started early with this Thom Browne outfit. While the American designer is known for unconventional creations, this choice is scarily bad and plainly not Grammy material.

Lizzo

We adored Lizzo’s Valentino outfit and mini clutch she took to the 2019 AMA awards, but we can’t appreciate this look. The star’s ruffled second dress of the night was paired with US$2 pink hair clips that in no way said “high fashion”.

Noah Cyrus

She might have been nominated for best new artist, but Noah Cyrus did not score with her outfit selection. The voluminous Schiaparelli couture might be bold but, along with a legion of Twitter users, we are not buying it. Haters compared it to everything from messy bedsheets and scrunched-up tissues to used sanitary pads.

The ones we loved: Beyoncé

Record-breaker Beyoncé once again showed that she’s the queen of both music and fashion with a black leather mini dress and gloves, with trompe l’oeil gold fingernails from Schiaparelli Haute Couture, a custom design by its American artistic director Daniel Roseberry.

Billie Eilish

After gathering armfuls of awards in 2019 and 2020, Billie Eilish showed up oozing rock star charm in a head-to-toe tiger print Gucci ensemble with matching nails, which made her iconic green hair really pop.

BTS

While BTS lost the award for best pop duo/group performance to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, the K-pop idols scored high fashion marks with matching Louis Vuitton camel and black outfits by Virgil Abloh.

Harry Styles

Channelling his now-trademark androgynous style, Harry Styles showed up in a checked Gucci jacket with flared pants and a purple feather boa.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift hit the red carpet like a spring fairy stepping out of a picture book with her floral Oscar de la Renta ensemble.

Dua Lipa

Staying loyal to Versace after her previous award-night looks, Dua Lipa swooped in looking sexy in a glitz-and-gossamer butterfly dress.

Megan Thee Stallion
