Two, as they say, is better than one, and fashion house collaborations with like-minded brands and other creatives often bring delightful ideas to the table. Here STYLE has gathered a few of the season’s most compelling collabs with some of your (and our) favourite brands – Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Dolce & Gabbana, Bulgari and Giorgio Armani.

Louis Vuitton – Objects of desire

Since 2012, Louis Vuitton has been inviting celebrated international designers to imagine experimental yet functional travel-inspired furniture and design objects for its Objects Nomades collection.

Previous items have included a hammock and a foldable stool, but whatever the object, each limited-edition piece is made to push the boundaries of leatherwork and showcase Louis Vuitton’s attention to craftsmanship and innovation. The collection simultaneously pays homage to the maison’s special orders of the past – such as the iconic bed trunk produced in 1874 for explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazzà – while celebrating the contemporary vision of a diverse group of designers.

The latest additions to the collection are Zanellato/Bortotto Lanterns, on display with other items in Hong Kong until April 8 in a series of specially designed and curated rooms by the acclaimed architecture firm NC Design & Architecture, whose optical illusions and graphic imagery created a surreal yet stylish backdrop to frame the special collection.

Loewe x Knot on my Planet – Tribal Touch

Loewe’s third year of collaboration with Knot on My Planet, to support the Elephant Crisis Fund, has resulted in the iconic Elephant bag. Crafted in traditional shuka fabric with a tasselled strap, the purse gets its tribal look from the vibrant chequered fabric that is traditionally used by the Kenyan Maasai tribe for shawls.

Besides being a historic textile, shuka is known for its bright hues, which add to the allure of the Elephant bag. The bold combination of colours speaks to an affinity with the natural world – blue stands for the sky, red for the blood of the cattle, and white for their milk.

Loewe’s collaboration with Knot on My Planet combines fashion with a positive impact on society by bringing the issues of elephant poaching and the ivory crisis to the forefront of the conversation.

Launched exclusively online, the Elephant bag is limited to 300 pieces.

Dolce & Gabbana x Khaled – Leonine luxe

Music, creativity and style come together in a new collaboration between Dolce & Gabbana and Grammy award-winning DJ and record producer DJ Khaled. The Italian luxury fashion house’s partnership with the musician is an artistic partnership with the perfect balance of creativity, brilliance and pure contemporary style.

Described as “Miami’s urban style meets the Mediterranean atmosphere”, the collection is centred on two creative concepts. The first is a depiction of a lion, a symbol of pride and strength that has always been important to DJ Khaled – who featured the animal on the cover of his Billboard No 1 album “Major Key” – framed by florals and fringed by stripes and polka dots. The second creation evokes Wynwood, the artistic heart of Miami, with murals and graffiti interwoven among Mediterranean bougainvillea flowers and agave leaves.

Bulgari x Mary Katrantzou

Greek-born, London-based fashion designer Mary Katrantzou is the latest talent to join hands with Roman jeweller Bulgari for its Serpenti Through the Eyes Of project. Known for her mesmerising prints, Katrantzou has imagined the house’s signature Serpenti motif with new hero designs: the Serpenti Metamorphosis bag, Serpenti Metamorphosis handle bag and Serpenti Metamorphosis Minaudière, plus a series of exotic scarves, with a campaign featuring Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova.

Taking inspiration from the jewellery house’s signature snakehead motif and the transformation of butterflies, Katrantzou introduced intricate, three-dimensional embroideries onto the body of the Serpenti Metamorphosis. The handle bag is crafted in smooth quilted nappa leather and topped by a whimsical snake-shape top handle, and snakehead buckle. The minaudière comes in two sizes: a small one in gold to be carried cross-body or as a clutch, and a medium-size clutch to be worn on the wrist.

Giorgio Armani x Parmigiani Fleurier

When luxury fashion brands want to launch their own line of watches, it’s often a complicated matter. Watches, after all, are more challenging to create than a dress or a pair of shoes. So when Italian fashion house Giorgio Armani decided to develop timepieces, it wanted to partner with one of the best, so it called Parmigiani Fleurier.

Projected to be available from November this year, the Giorgio Armani Fine Watches collection will combine Armani’s creative spirit with Parmigiani’s technical genius. Founder Michel Parmigiani, a master watchmaker and restorer, is known for his dedication to detail and design.

“The collaboration happened naturally,” says Armani. “We share a passion for perfection and the pursuit of beauty as an expression of timeless values. This series of watches is the synthesis of my vision, made up of precise lines and exquisite materials, applied to unique products. I think that an object that expresses aesthetic excellence, quality and craftsmanship is meant to last forever. In Parmigiani Fleurier, I’ve found the perfect partner to experiment with a new language.”
