  • The much in-demand blue dial 5711 may have been discontinued, but there’s plenty of new innovations for collectors to covet in 2021
  • An olive green dial takes its place in the range, while other new highlights include the women’s Nautilus Haute Joaillerie featuring more than 2,500 diamonds

Patek Philippe released four Nautilus references at the digital Watches & Wonders show this year, along with five other references. The novelties include a new rendition of the highly sought-after stainless steel 5711/1A, along with an in-line perpetual calendar, a first for the watchmaker.

Patek Philippe CEO Thierry Stern said that the hype surrounding 5711 had risen to “dangerous” levels, with prices skyrocketing in the secondary market. The watchmaker approached this by announcing its decision to kill the blue dial 5711/1A-010 early in the year to the shock and surprise of those patiently waiting to climb the waiting list, a wait that rumours at the time suggested might be up to 10 years long. The management felt the model’s dominance in the market could be a threat to the overall health of the brand. It’s important to note though that the blue dial will still be available in Nautilus references in precious metals.

Taking its place is an olive green number; the shade made its debut in the Twenty~4 collection earlier in the year, though in a different fishing and execution.

The Ref. 5711/1A-014 marks the first time olive green has found its way onto the dial of the Nautilus. The automatic calibre 26-330 powers the hour, minute and sweep second hands plus the date display.
