A fan of speed, luxury timepieces, sports cars or Swiss boats? You’re in luck! There’s two big bits of news to thumb up on: first, Ferrari gave a sneak peak into its new V12 motor. Richard Mille’s record-breaking bid

Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille was founded on the need to push boundaries and create new marvels of watchmaking engineering, so its latest attempt to break technical barriers seems only natural. It has teamed up with top Swiss boat maker SP80 in an endeavour to build a boat that can reach a speed of 80 knots (150km/h) powered only by the wind in its sails — and break the world’s sailing speed record.

The project came to Richard Mille via its longtime partner North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT), which produces the Carbon TPT famously used in Richard Mille’s watch cases. NTPT knew that Richard Mille, as a brand that is captivated by speed, racing, and extreme developments, would find the project intriguing.

The proposed boat created by SP80 promises to have a design unlike any other – a cross between a boat, a plane, and a Formula 1 car. It will have a hull made entirely of Carbon TPT and a specially developed “super-ventilated” foil that guarantees stability at high speeds. Richard Mille’s partnership in this adventure enables further developments, fostering the sailing world’s need for speed.

The latest Ferrari limited-edition based on the 812 Superfast (successor to the F12) will be unveiled at Maranello, Italy, this month. The highly anticipated, naturally aspirated V12 is an extreme front-engine Berlinetta, honing the characteristics of the critically acclaimed 812 Superfast. The latest evolution of Maranello’s legendary 65° V12 engine puts up the highest numbers of any Ferrari road-car engine, delivering 830 horsepower and revving to 9,500rpm.

The design of the whole car was aimed at maximising downforce: from the new front air intakes, rear diffuser and exhaust configuration to the patented design of the rear screen which now hosts vortex generators. Every modification is an expression of Ferrari’s core belief that form must always follow function. The interior architecture remains largely that of the 812 Superfast, retaining the main dash and door panel interfaces and volumes.
