Why Cristiano Ronaldo can’t sell his Trump Tower apartment: the soccer star bought the US$18.5 million New York City property in 2015 – now he’s struggling to find buyers at less than half the price
The 36-year-old football star bought the flat at 721 Fifth Avenue back in 2015, with the purchase completed two months after Trump announced that he was running for president. Buying “at the top of the market”, he paid a whopping US$18.5 million, so let’s take a peek inside the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom unit to see what he got for his money.
5 OTT homes the former US president owns, from Mar-a-Lago to Trump Tower
The foyer
This has black and white limestone designer floors leading to the art gallery and living room.
According to the listing, the living spaces mostly feature burnished koa wood-panelling, with some also having 18th century parquet de Versaille floors.
Living room
The formal living room is finished in classic hues of brown with complementing blues and replete with artworks and books, giving a dated vibe.
The residence is known to have inspired 50 Shades of Grey author E.L. James, who used the interiors as a model for Christian Grey’s bachelor pad.
Bedroom
Office
There’s also an office space with a view of Manhattan towers.
Fitness room
A world-famous athlete’s home can hardly be without a fitness room. And it too boasts inspiring panoramic views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.
Ronaldo first listed the 2,510 sq ft abode in 2019 for less than half of what he bought it for, at US$9 million. Now the home is on the market for only US$7.75 million – and we wouldn’t bet on the ultimate selling price being lower still.
