Fame and celebrity

  • The billionaire athlete bought the apartment before the 2016 US presidential elections – but now its price is dipping just like Donald Trump’s popularity
  • 50 Shades of Grey author E.L. James used the apartment as inspiration for Christian Grey’s bachelor pad with its koa wood panels and parquet and limestone floors

Donald Trump is having a bad 2021, still blocked on most social media and losing money at a rate of knots. He’s not alone though, for as his year sinks ever lower in the water, it is apparently pulling in people around the world with only the most remote connection to him. Billionaire Canadian socialite Suzanne Rogers for example, who swiftly went from being the country’s fashion fairy godmother to being pushed out of high society thanks to a picture of her with Trump at a Mar-a-Lago dinner.
Now we hear Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to get rid of his flat in Trump Tower in New York City, and he’s willing to take a massive loss on the sale. Fans have been urging the soccer superstar to sell the residence for a while, even putting together petitions. Now the footballer, who plays for Juventus in Italy and is currently on duty for his country at Euro 2020, has finally paid heed and wants to get rid of the apartment asap.

The 36-year-old football star bought the flat at 721 Fifth Avenue back in 2015, with the purchase completed two months after Trump announced that he was running for president. Buying “at the top of the market”, he paid a whopping US$18.5 million, so let’s take a peek inside the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom unit to see what he got for his money.

According to the listing, the living spaces mostly feature burnished koa wood-panelling, with some also having 18th century parquet de Versaille floors.

Living room

The formal living room is finished in classic hues of brown with complementing blues and replete with artworks and books, giving a dated vibe.

The residence is known to have inspired 50 Shades of Grey author E.L. James, who used the interiors as a model for Christian Grey’s bachelor pad.
