French luxury house Hermès is devoted to crafting top-tier, quality luxury goods with classic designs and an unbeatable tour de force of craftsmanship. This ethos is fittingly epitomised in its signature Hermès Birkin bag, which has a cult of A-list followers across the world including former US first lady and fashion powerhouse Melania Trump, one of Asia’s richest women Nita Ambani, Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham, Cardi B, Kim Kardashian and Drake, to name a few.

The French luxury house has kept the Birkin design timeless, occasionally upgrading it with creative reinvention. For the brand’s 2021 releases, it has reintroduced the luxury bag with a few fun and fresh editions.

This Birkin 3 En 1 edition is possibly the most functional and versatile Birkin to date.

Conceived like a puzzle, it’s comprised of the classic brown leather tote in Barénia Faubourg calfskin and a removable canvas and leather pouch, which can be used separately as a clutch. When attached together, the inner compartment serves as the bag’s classic flap, and the two parts jointly form a trompe-l’oeil Birkin handbag. This edition is priced at US$16,000 (HK$124,900).

One of the most playful new designs is the Birkin 30 Barenia Faubourg in calfskin. Taking inspiration from the brand’s equestrian heritage – specifically bridles – it features a detachable harness fastened with button studs, which allow the handbag to be worn as a shoulder bag too – a first for a Birkin.

Meanwhile, the 35 Fray Fray in H twill canvas has brought functionality back to the all-time fashion favourite. Now available in vibrant summer hues, the lightweight canvas material is decorated with hand-fringed edges.

Have you seen the supersized Haut à Courroies bag Travis Scott was sporting in his latest outing in New York City? This one comes from the same family, but designed with a more understated aesthetic with military motifs.

The Haut à Courroies bag was one of the earliest handbags the French brand introduced, originally for equestrians to carry their saddles and utilities. The bag is equipped with numerous practical details like multiple pockets, a flat card holder and a detachable water bottle holder. It can also be customised in a variety of different combinations of leather and canvas.
