If you were Warren Buffett, with a current net worth of US$100 billion-plus, imagine the comforts you could afford.
According to global real estate technology company Juwai IQI – which has compiled a list of the world’s most iconic homes and how much they’d be worth if they were on the market today – the Berkshire Hathaway chairman and CEO’s home would not be out of place on any suburban street.
“Most of the iconic homes on our list stand out for their ostentatiousness, but Buffett’s is special due to its modesty,” says Kashif Ansari, Juwai IQI co-founder and group CEO.
With five bedrooms, and two-and-a-half bathrooms, the home cost Buffett just US$31,500 in 1958. Based on local government rates assessments and recent sales in the neighbourhood, Juwai’s team estimates the 6,570 sq ft home would be worth about US$1.2 million today.
Whereas Buffett’s home is valued at only US$161 per square foot, the equivalent for the primary residence of the queen of England is a whopping US$8,084 per square foot.

The 775 rooms at Buckingham Palace include 240 bedrooms, 52 grand bedrooms, 19 staterooms and 78 bathrooms, along with a post office, doctor’s office and jeweller’s workshop, all set in a 42-acre garden with a three-acre lake and swimming pool.
The palace’s prime location is close to London Victoria railway station, St James’ Park, Hyde Park and the West End.
