A name that’s synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, luxury and glamour, Gucci is equally renowned for the sumptuous, elevated, tactile yet welcoming environments of the boutiques in which it presents its products. Now the house’s flagship boutique in Hong Kong, its sweeping space spreading across two floors at the Landmark in Central, has been given a spectacular makeover, effecting precisely the sort of dazzling change in appearance experienced by anyone donning one of the maison’s unmistakable creations. It announced its reopening on May 31. Gucci was founded in Florence in 1921, meaning it celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. For its first few decades, it was based solely in its home nation, but it began its retail growth overseas in the 1950s, and since then the brand’s stores have gradually spread across the world: first expanding to the US in the 1950s, then to Paris the following decade, and then on to Asia in the 1970s, establishing its first boutique in Hong Kong in 1974. These days the house, under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele and with Marco Bizzarri as its president and chief executive, has nearly 500 stores around the world, each exemplifying its core values of celebrating creativity, innovation and Italian craftsmanship. They include 11 outlets in Hong Kong, among which its Landmark boutique is the flagship. It finally happened: Gucci and Adidas’ collab at Milan Fashion Week 2022 Now that the boutique has been given a brand new look, reopening on May 31 after an extensive renovation, it of course features a whole range of desirable products, including plenty of exclusives. These include men’s and women’s ready-to-wear pieces , luggage, handbags, shoes, watches and jewellery, home decor, lifestyle products and fragrances, all spread across a two-level space that covers a massive 8,107 sq ft. Gucci’s latest collections are all about eclecticism and the harmonious combination of opposites, and that’s shown in the decor used in the newly renovated store, and the ambience that they evoke. These include antique wooden furniture and vintage mirrors, alongside marble and bamboo floors bedecked with vintage Asian rugs. Along with the artful use of empty space within the new boutique, it makes for a design scheme that combines the traditional with the modern, the industrial with the romantic, conveying an effortless contemporary glamour. The newly revamped store also boasts several innovative features. It offers its customers a Gucci DIY service, which allows them to customise products, including the materials, colours and details. The new boutique also encompasses several Instagram-worthy spaces that you will surely soon see pervading social media. It is also the maison’s first Greater China outlet with a lounge for its most exclusive VIP guests, including a bar serving refreshments and authentic Italian coffee. Finally, the boutique boasts women’s and men’s changing rooms with distinctive designs and antique furniture, while the bathrooms within the store are also decorated with the ultimate extravagance with a 70s aesthetic.
