Style Edit: Chaumet’s A Journey Through Nature turns spices and sensations into jewels
The Parisian high jeweller’s latest collection transforms nature’s most evocative aromas, textures and botanicals into extraordinary works of art
For more than two centuries, nature has been the beating heart of Chaumet. From the flowers favoured by Empress Joséphine to the bees that have become an enduring emblem of the maison, the Parisian jeweller has always looked to the natural world not simply for decoration, but for emotion. Its latest high jewellery collection, A Journey Through Nature, takes that philosophy in an entirely new direction – one that engages memory as much as the eye.
Rather than recreating landscapes or botanical specimens with scientific precision, Chaumet explores the sensations they evoke. A sprig of mint, the aroma of coffee, the warmth of saffron or the sweetness of vanilla become the starting point for a collection of 46 creations that blur the boundaries between high jewellery and storytelling. Structured in three chapters, the collection unfolds like an immersive sensory experience, moving from botanical freshness to spicy sweetness before culminating in aromatic warmth.
The opening chapter celebrates freshness through gemstones chosen as much for their colour as their emotional resonance. Tea Field pairs luminous Colombian emeralds with sculptural white gold, creating fluid forms that recall flowing water and terraced plantations. Verbena Bouquet introduces supple yellow gold mesh – used for the first time in one of Chaumet’s recent high jewellery collections – set with pastel sapphires from Madagascar and Sri Lanka that shimmer between green, yellow and blue. Mint Leaf completes the trio with crisp aquamarines, pearls and graphic lines that conjure the cool clarity of water on a summer’s day.
The mood then shifts to richer, more nostalgic notes. Vanilla Flower interprets one of the world’s most treasured botanicals through asymmetrical diamond-set creations inspired by its flowers and pods, while Star Anise transforms that spice’s distinctive geometry into feminine jewels highlighted by candy-pink Madagascar sapphires. Cinnamon Bark embraces generous curves and warm tones, combining rubellites, amber-coloured tourmalines and spessartine garnets in sculptural pieces that are both bold and surprisingly light.
The final chapter is perhaps the most dramatic. Coffee Aroma captures the richness of freshly roasted beans with velvety blue sapphires suspended within swirling ribbons of white gold and pavé diamonds, while engraved tassels subtly reference coffee beans themselves. Peppercorns distils the intensity of spice into monochromatic white gold and diamonds, drawing on signatures from Chaumet’s Joséphine collection to create jewels that feel both contemporary and unmistakably Parisian. Saffron Flower concludes the journey with radiant yellow diamonds and vibrant grand feu enamel, celebrating one of the world’s rarest spices through a dazzling interplay of colour, volume and light.
