Swiss luxury watchmaker Omega commemorated 75 years of its renowned Seamaster line with the launch of a new colourway for the collection – Summer Blue. Style attended the celebratory event last week in the famed beach destination of Sanya, selected as homage to Omega’s enduring bond with the ocean.

Omega is a name that stands out for its precision and innovation. The extraordinary Seamaster collection features seven iconic models among a total of 11 watches. Each timepiece has a single tone of blue that represents a different aspect of the ocean and its varying water resistance depths. The watches range from the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m with a lighter blue dial, perfect for a yacht trip; to the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep 6,000m, designed for the darkest depths of the ocean.

Aptly themed “Precision at Every Level”, the launch event brought together an impressive line-up of celebrity guests, friends of the house from the worlds of entertainment and sports, as well as industry insiders. Brand ambassador Liu Shishi, American actor Glen Powell, Chinese short-board surfing champion Qin Zhuo and free-diving champion Zhang Yi were among those who graced the occasion.

We had the opportunity to get a closer look at the intricate detail and craftsmanship that went into the creation of these watches, such as the commemorative engraved caseback featuring a trident-bearing Poseidon and two seahorses.

Keeping with the ocean theme, the beach served as the backdrop for the Seamaster in Summer Blue collection. A breathtaking display of the timepieces was placed meticulously on pedestals that represented the different water resistance depths – 150, 300, 600, 1,200 and 6,000 metres.

As the sun began to set and the waves gently rolled, we were treated to a candlelit dinner on the beach where the venue was adorned with the Summer Blue colour scheme, accompanied by live music and a surprise display of fireworks over the South China Sea to wrap up the event in the most spectacular way.

Also present at the event was Omega CEO and president Raynald Aeschlimann. “The many tributes paid to Seamaster here in Sanya offer proof of its versatility,” Aeschlimann said, expressing his pride in the collection’s enduring legacy. “As well as being a watch stylish enough to turn heads, it can hold its own in extreme environments. The name says it all! The Seamaster is a legend and still going strong.”

Omega’s launch in Sanya was a celebration of style, elegance and the connection between the Swiss brand and the ocean. The event left a lasting impression on all who attended and while we may already be wondering what Omega will do next, we were grateful for the chance to join in the celebration for this emblematic collection.
