Celebrity jeweller Cindy Chao’s artistic earrings auctioned for almost HK$1.4 million at Sotheby’s
The final bid for the earrings, which depict drifting maple leaves, is double the original estimate
Counting celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Wendi Deng, Ivanka Trump and Li Bingbing as fans, independent jeweller Cindy Chao is known for her dramatic, sculptured and nature-inspired creations.
Her latest creation – the Maple Earrings – just fetched HK$1.375 million at Sotheby’s Spring Auction on Tuesdayas part of the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Auction. The final bid, made by a New York collector, was almost double the initial estimation.
The Maple Earrings feature 26ct of diamonds and yellow diamonds, depicting the whimsical and delicate beauty of drifting maple leaves.
The Taiwan-born jeweller established her label – Cindy Chao The Art Jewellery – in 2004 and has shown her works at the 2016 Paris Biennale des Antiquaires and the 2017 Shanghai West Bund Art & Design Fair.
