Meitu, China’s leading mobile internet company, and the British Museum are set to launch a limited edition smartphone specifically for women. The co-branded smartphone – a limited edition of Meitu’s V6 – will be available from tomorrow (May 20).

5 of the best Chinese smartphones money can buy

The phone comes with all the advanced features of Meitu’s V6, including the dual-pixel front camera fitted with optical image stabilisation technology, offering photo quality similar to that of DSLR cameras, and artificial intelligence beautification technology, which can apply facial improvement effects to different skin tones and faces of all ages. It was designed with inspiration from Antoine Watteau, one of the most important and famed Rococo artists.

“Since its inception in 2008, Meitu has always focused on the idea of ‘beauty’ when producing any of its products. We are not making an ordinary smartphone. It is the art of beauty. We hope that through this cooperation with the British Museum, and by combining art and technology, more people will see and experience the ‘beauty’ of life,” says Yi Wei, senior vice-president of Meitu.

The limited edition V6 smartphone comes with ECCO leather case and a cosmetic brush set. It is available from May 20 on jd.com and from May 30 at China Telecom retail stores for 6,999 yuan (US$1,101).
