Who can forget when BTS picked up their Billboard Music Award for top social artist in 2017 – just four years after their debut in 2013?

While each of the talented group’s members deserves his own post, we’re focusing on Suga today, to mark his 26th birthday.

Suga, who was born Min Yoon-gi, has had a rich and varied experience in the K-pop industry – much more than fans realise. Here are three of his most interesting music collaborations every Suga follower should know about.

‘518-062’

Some fans may be unaware that Suga used to be part of an underground hip-hop group, called D-Town (short for Daegu Town), and was active under the name “Gloss”.

During his time with D-Town, Suga produced the song 518-062 with AKB48’s Akimoto Yasushi. The rap track commemorates the Gwangju Uprising in South Korea in 1980. “518” refers to May 18, the date of Gwangju’s historic Democratisation Movement later that year, while “062” is the region’s area code.

‘Wine’

Suga has continued to prove his talent for music production by creating top-notch tracks for other artists, such as R&B vocalist Suran’s song Wine, which featured a groovy techno rhythm paired with emotional lyrics about a past relationship. Produced by Suga, the song topped Korea’s music charts in 2017.

Upcoming collaboration with Epik High

Excitement is in the air. Veteran hip-hop group Epik High posted a teaser clip on its social media channels recently, announcing an upcoming collaboration with key players in the music industry including Code Kunst, Crush, Yuna and, of course, Suga. Their new music is expected to drop on March 11 – mark your calendar.
