The film Captain Marvel is the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) release to reach a huge box-office milestone.
It reached US$1 billion at the worldwide box office on April 3, joining six other MCU films. Avengers: Infinity War even made US$2 billion, and is one of only four films to ever do so.
Captain Marvel fought off online trolls, which launched a campaign to damage the rating of its Rotten Tomatoes audience score, to become a global phenomenon.
The next MCU film, Avengers: Endgame – set for global release from April 24 – is likely to join this club and shatter box-office records. It is projected to open with the biggest debut weekend among Avengers movies of all time, beating Infinity War.
