American first lady shows her sartorial wisdom once again with carefully-chosen, respectful and high-fashion outfits

US President Donald Trump is paying his first state visit to Britain, accompanied by his wife Melania Trump and four of his five children – Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany and Donald Trump Jnr.

Despite criticism from the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and protests on London’s streets, the First Family was welcomed by Queen Elizabeth and the British royal family with a host of activities planned during the three-day trip.

There is no specific job description for America’s first lady, and each defines her own role. Melania, who rarely publicly participates in her husband’s political dramas, is often credited as the nation’s most fashionable first lady after Jacqueline Kennedy. She has again shown her sartorial wisdom on the trip to the UK, with carefully-chosen, respectful, high-fashion outfits.

Melania Trump displayed her elegance when she first met Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace on Monday, turning heads in a crisp white coat-style Dolce & Gabbana dress, complemented by a navy blue collar and belt. The white-brimmed hat was the work of her stylist Hervé Pierre.

At one of the most important events of the trip – the state banquet hosted by Queen Elizabeth, which specifies a white-tie dress code – the American first lady dazzled in an ivory-hued silk crepe gown from Dior’s Haute Couture collection, finished with white opera-length gloves and Manolo Blahnik shoes.
