Who is Mira Filzah?

Actress, model and entrepreneur, Mira Filzah is Malaysia’s ultimate “girl next door”.

Filzah recently starred in the acclaimed Malaysian drama series Pujaan Hati Kanda alongside actor Remy Ishak. The show’s last episode aired in January 2019 and reportedly garnered over 5 million viewers, as well as 30 million views on YouTube and tonton, Malaysia’s largest video streaming service.

Filzah worked with Lancôme when it unveiled its first Ramadan-Raya campaign in Malaysia on April 30, 2019.

In addition to using Lancôme products, the 26-year-old has her own Argan oil-based collection called MORA Essential by Mira Filzah, as well as a shawl company.

Filzah has 4.8 million followers on Instagram.

Why is she trending?

During an Instagram live video in May, Filzah responded to a fan who asked: “Do you prefer being called baby or sayang?” by suggesting: “Baby sayang” in a singsong voice.

The “Baby sayang” sound bite immediately went viral, making Filzah synonymous with a term of endearment. Parodies, remixes and ringtones of Filzah saying “Baby sayang” were published across social media, including YouTube.

The reality is that Filzah is trending because she’s super cute.

But with the good comes the bad: perhaps because of Filzah’s soaring popularity, the actress has had to deal with an onslaught of sexually explicit comments on her Instagram feed. Malaysian tabloids have reported that she has received numerous menacing and pornographic comments under her Instagram posts.

Malaysian online newspaper Kosmo! has reported that Filzah doesn’t have any plans to take legal action against those responsible for the comments. She said she manages her own social media accounts, deleting any negative comments and blocking individuals if they send her obscene messages.

Filzah said she will remain active on social media to connect with her fans.
