Television series about Ms. Marvel unlikely to be seen on Disney Plus for a few years, but Captain Marvel star Brie Larson hopes character will be in sequel to her hit film

A female Muslim superhero Kamala Khan is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The live-action Ms. Marvel television series is ‘in the works’ for Disney’s forthcoming streaming service, Disney Plus, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Disney Plus will launch on November 12.

Several other MCU series are being developed for the service with actors from the films reprising their roles, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Hawkeye, Loki, and an animated series, What If?, which will tell alternative versions of MCU stories.

Khan is a teenage, Pakistani-American Muslim superhero who was introduced in Marvel Comics in 2013.

Carol Danvers, played by actress Brie Larson in the MCU, used to be known as Ms. Marvel in the comics. After Danvers dons the mantle of Captain Marvel in the comics, Khan calls herself Ms. Marvel.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has prioritised diversity in future projects. The MCU will also introduce its first Asian superhero to headline a solo film in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

“When you have diverse voices, you get better stories and you get more exciting stories, you get more surprising stories,” Feige told Variety last year. “And that is something that is very clear.”
