Cathay Pacific didn’t make the 10 most punctual carriers in 2019 list – but which Asian airline came top?

Each year, global travel data provider OAG ranks the top 250 airlines; in 2019, it compiled the data from over 50 million flights around the world

Flight delays and cancellations are the bane of every traveller’s existence with numerous factors affecting on-time performance. Anything from a mechanical issue to the weather can affect whether a flight departs on or close to its scheduled time. 

The metric is a valuable determining factor of an airline’s dependability as a flight delay could jeopardise an entire trip. Some regulatory bodies, including the European Union, require airlines to compensate passengers in the event of an extended controllable delay. 

Each year, global travel data provider OAG ranks the top 250 airlines and reveals which ones were the most punctual. The organisation compiled the data from over 50 million flights around the world throughout 2019.

Here are the airlines that were the most timely in getting their passengers to their destinations.

10. Thai AirAsia

The Thailand-based subsidiary of AirAsia, one of the largest low-cost airline groups in Southeast Asia, ranked 10th on the on-time list with 84.49 per cent of flights operating on or close to schedule.

The airline operates a fleet of close to 75 aircraft, according to planespotters.net, with service to around 15 countries from Thai cities, according to the airline.
