First to embrace trends, unafraid to experiment, and always true to his unique sense of style – these are the traits that make a true fashion king. Here are five from the glamorous world of K-pop.

1. BigBang’s G-Dragon

Days after being discharged from military service, G-Dragon was quick to make a comeback in the fashion scene, launching a Nike and PEACEMINUSONE collaboration collection – which sold out worldwide in minutes. Recently, he was spotted at the brand’s Future Sport Forum 2020, wearing braided shoelaces as a tie and a bag clip in place of a pocket square.

Why BigBang rapper T.O.P is one of K-pop’s greats

From BigBang’s over-the-top music videos to his headline-making front row appearances, G-Dragon is known for his fuzzy coats and Chanel womenswear, Thom Browne suits, Chrome Hearts accessories and streetwear by Jeremy Scott. He customises his clothes by cutting, doodling on them, or piling on pins, and – in true K-pop fashion – he loves transforming his hair into outrageous colours (red, blue, green, yellow, pink, half-black and half-white – you name it, he’s tried it) and styles (dreadlocks, one-sided bangs called “the seaweed” or “the weave”, Afro hair, and the internet-famous “sushi hair”).

2. Winner’s Mino

Shocking reporters with his airport look, Mino was recently seen in a granny-like ensemble: he wore a pink fur cardigan over a black knit sweater, had a sunflower-print scarf tied over his head, and carried a crocheted bag also in a sunflower design. It’s no surprise that his bandmates call his fashion style “grandpa”!

3. EXO’s Kai

EXO’s dance machine is also a Gucci king. He is the brand’s first global ambassador, and was recently seen at its 2020 autumn/winter show, wearing a flower-print cotton muslin shirt, layered over a blue striped shirt, and paired with vintage-inspired checked trousers.

With a dancer’s physique, Kai can effortlessly pull off crop tops, leather-on-leather, and velvet suits. Listed among GQ’s 50 best-dressed men of 2020, Kai’s signature style consists of multilayered ensembles, super loose silhouettes and a melange of accessories.

4. BTS’ V

Other than his show-stopping dance moves and wide vocal range, BTS’ V has another talent: it’s looking good in diverse, out-of-this-world looks. With a penchant for fashion and anything unique, V would personalise his looks by cutting his shirts or painting art on his jackets – a technique that inspires fans to customise their own clothes, too!

Fans look out for his airport fashion, what colourful print or floral button-down he’ll be wearing next, and the endless ways he’s worn his hair. V has sported a mullet, brown hair with green highlights at the tips, and a half-pink and half-orange style (as featured on his Barbie doll). Recently, he was seen in long, wavy locks, which fans adored. Bandmate Jin said that V’s black hair had made him more handsome, while J-Hope described how his hairstyle had changed his aura.

5. Zico

While clearly a fan of established labels such as JW Anderson (he sat in the front row at the men’s show in 2017), Raf Simons, Givenchy, Comme Des Garçons, Gucci, Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang, he has famously worked with South Korea’s top designers, too. He’s walked for Korean brand Dominic Way’s spring 2014 show and has collaborated with designer Go Tae-yong’s spring 2015 collection, which was presented at New York Fashion Week.

Another of Zico’s popular collaborations was with street brand MISBHV, which debuted in London.
