Known as ‘Middle-class Joe’, the Democratic candidate for US president has earned millions from book deals, speaking engagements and real estate, but are Sanders and Warren richer than he is?
On Super Tuesday, at the time of writing, former vice-president Joe Biden ended the vote with the most delegates and won in Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Minnesota, Massachusetts and Texas.
Biden has unparalleled name recognition among the field of candidates vying for the title of Democratic presidential nominee. He was ranked No. 4 in Insider’s recent “Power Ranking” of who has the best chance of becoming the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee.
The 77-year-old has touted himself as “Middle-class Joe” for decades – but he and his wife, Jill, have a net worth of US$9 million, according to a Forbes estimate from July 2019.
The couple’s fortune is mostly tied to public speaking engagements and book royalties, according to tax returns and financial disclosures released by the Biden campaign and published on the campaign’s website.
A spokesperson for Biden did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Biden’s net worth or personal life from Business Insider.
