The number of global coronavirus cases is spiralling so fast that whatever figure we write here will be out of date a few hours later – and no one can judge when relief will come. But what is transparently clear is that nobody is immune, with a growing number of renowned celebrities reporting a positive Covid-19 diagnosis. Here’s some of the most noteworthy names to have reported catching the deadly strain – urging fans to be be cautious and stay safe.

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and his wife, the actress Rita Wilson, were among the first celebrities who revealed their diagnosis, shocking the world on March 12. Hanks began experiencing colds, body aches and chills, one of the early symptoms of the virus, as he was filming for an upcoming Elvis Presley biopic in Australia. The latest celebrity to contract the virus is the British actor frequently tipped to play James Bond next – Idris Elba. He shared the news on Twitter on Monday (March 16) that he is not experiencing any symptoms so far and self-quarantined immediately. Elba requested to get tested as he was exposed to someone who had contracted the virus. He then prompted followers to follow protocol by washing hands and practising social distancing.

Along with Idris Elba, Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju, best known for playing Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones, declared his diagnosis on March 16. He is experiencing mild symptoms of a cold and currently quarantined at home in Norway. In the following post, he encourages people to stay healthy and safe and execute social distancing, specifically 1.5 meters away from each other.

Ukrainian-born French actress Olga Kurylenko, best known for playing “Bond girl” Camille Montes opposite Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace, revealed her exposure to coronavirus on March 15 and is currently quarantined at home. On her Instagram post, she shared that her illness began a week ago with the main symptoms of fever and fatigue.
