Be a Batman to avoid catching the coronavirus: the Chinese-designed shield that might help save the human race

A Chinese designer has created the Be a Batman shield intended to save the human race from the Covid-19 pandemic, which uses UV light to sterilise itself
The chaos caused by the coronavirus outbreak, known as Covid-19, is far from over and the perils of being near your fellow man are becoming very real. We may need a superhero of sorts to save us from this threat. How about becoming your own superman or – in the words of Chinese designer Sun Dayong – Be a Batman.

Believe it or not, becoming your own Batman is easier than it sounds. Unlike, say, a Spider-Man costume, this one does not require much in the way of creating the look. The Be a Batman shield is more like a mobile safety device intended to save the human race from the virus outbreak by using UV light to sterilise itself.

The shield is made from carbon fibre and is shaped similarly to bat wings to be worn in the way you would a backpack. A PVC film would stretch between these supports, mimicking the membrane of a bat’s wing.

The frame features wires that heat up to a temperature high enough to kill any pathogens, thus sterilising your environment.

At the moment, Sun Dayong is looking for a backer. He has offered his services as a designer free of cost to someone who funds the project.
