Celebrities such as Lady Gaga have offered stern and stark warnings, others like Diplo and Miley Cyrus prefer jokes and jingles – who is making fun of the Covid-19 pandemic and who is taking it seriously?
Since the coronavirus outbreak has gone global, international celebrities have weighed in showing their support, or at least engagement, on social media, often with distinctly different approaches. Some have shown their sympathetic and caring nature, while others shared a sense of humour – which is sometimes questionable, as many might feel it’s not the right time for jokes. Here is STYLE’s pick of the most memorable celebrity reactions to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Coldplay
On March 17, Chris Martin, the frontman of British band Coldplay, posted a #TogetherAtHome virtual “mini gig” via Instagram live, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and Global Citizen. The home performance was aimed at boosting the morale and spirit of fans who are at home self-quarantining. Martin performed the band’s biggest hits Yellow, Trouble, Viva La Vida, A Sky Full of Stars and Up&Up from the comfort of his home with just a piano and acoustic guitar.
American artist John Legend, of All of Me fame, tweeted his appreciation for Martin’s heart-warming performance and followed his footsteps on March 18.
