Coronavirus pandemic

Following a trend set by John Legend and Chris Martin, stacks more musicians are reaching out to fans during the Covid-19 lockdown with live home concerts via social media – but who put on the best show so far?

Even with concerts being cancelled and postponed, entertainers are not giving up their mission to entertain. Like the rest of us, musicians worldwide are also working from home and bringing the performance straight to you via Instagram Live – often for a charitable cause.

Following Chris Martin, the frontman of British band Coldplay, and then American singer John Legend, musicians worldwide are live-streaming performances from their homes, many in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and Global Citizen to raise funds to tackle the pandemic.

The virtual concerts aim to ease the minds of fans who are home-quarantined, which is a great approach to spreading positivity and to entertain us during these dark times. Plus, fans can request songs directly from their favourite artists and ask questions on the live feed.

Here STYLE takes a closer look at what some of the music world’s biggest names brought to the virtual concert table.

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes

The lovey-dovey couple are social distancing in a mysterious jungle hideaway. They began with a version of their “favourite person in the whole world”, Ed Sheeran’s Kiss Me – pausing for a mid-song giggle-fest which makes the cover even more endearing. They then performed acoustic bangers, with Mendes’ Lost in Japan, Cabello’s Havana and their duet Señorita.

The duo also spread love and support. “Social distancing does not have to be boring. This is a crazy time, and we’re all going to come out of this together, we’re going to pull through, and we’re going to try and connect and make each other smile in the meantime,” Cabello says.

“We care about everyone. Again, I just want to say, be patient with yourself. Please do. Give yourself the patience and love you deserve right now,” Mendes added.

They also revealed that they have been filling their time watching Harry Potter movies. “I think everybody should start Harry Potter from top to end,” added Mendes.
