Since fashionistas are staying home during the pandemic, we have prepared a list of documentaries, movies, programmes, podcasts and luxury e-shopping destinations to help you stay in the know

As the world grapples with the dreaded coronavirus outbreak, celebrities worldwide such as Hilary Duff and Pink are taking the initiative to urge people to isolate themselves and stay at home.

For the fashion world, staying at home doesn’t mean staying out of touch.

While fabulous parties have been put on hold, why not take the time to really upgrade your fashion arsenal, from knowledge to wardrobe?

To start with, STYLE’s YouTube channel houses the latest fashion shows, so be sure to subscribe and get a heads-up on 2020’s newest trends.

Besides the obvious Instagram surfing, we prepared a list of documentaries, movies, programmes, podcasts and luxury e-shopping destinations to keep you ahead of the curve.

Netflix shows

Since we’re binge-watching Netflix already, here are some good selections for your style awakening. Next in Fashion (2020), which aims to search for the next big designer who’ll make a mark in the industry can be a fresh start. If you’re yearning for Hollywood glamour with a unique perspective, Styling Hollywood (2019) is your next binge. And lastly, Queer Eye (2018), featuring fashionable makeovers brought to you by the fab five, will keep you glued to your screens.

Movies

Classic films noted for featuring the best style and wardrobe include Sex and the CityThe Devil Wears Prada, and Confessions of a Shopaholic. Plus, vintage 80s and 90s are in, so be ready to twist the characters’ nostalgia flair. Biographies such as Yves Saint Laurent reinterpreted the fashion legend’s path to creative helm of Dior and founding his own label.

If you’re looking for a film that is more serious in tone and has emotional depth, Phantom Thread is excellent: it tells the story of Reynold Woodcock (portrayed by Daniel Day-Lewis), an haute couturier who reigned in London in the 1950s. The film won an Oscar for Best Costume Design in 2018. A Single Man directed by designer Tom Ford showed his impeccable art direction.

Documentaries

For those who want to peek into the insider aspects of fashion, documentaries serve that purpose. Valentino: The Last Emperor,  Dior and I, McQueen, which delve into the world of designers and haute couture, are some of the must-watch films. Photography enthusiasts will learn the importance of grit and determination in Bill Cunningham New York.
