Lamborghini is recalling 26 limited edition Aventador SVJs due to faulty door handles which could trap the driver inside; repairs will be scheduled from around May 1 – assuming coronavirus no longer poses a threat

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Lamborghini. The coronavirus outbreak which has been wreaking havoc in Italy has forced the supercar manufacturer to temporarily cease production, and now the Italian marque, along with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), has issued a recall notice for 26 Aventador SVJs.

Just to jog your memory, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is a limited edition variant of the company’s flagship model.

Created especially to be blisteringly fast on race circuits, the Aventador SJC coupe currently holds the record for the fastest lap around the famous Nurburgring. The fact that Lamborghini is only going to build 900 units of the coupe version and 800 SVJ roadsters means that both the variants are hugely desirable among Lamborghini patrons and car collectors.

This means a recall doesn’t really bode well for the Italian manufacturer, especially when the fault in the cars is the doing of a single factory technician.

Only 800 Aventador SVJs will be made.

The statement issued by Lamborghini and NHTSA states: “During the assembly a non-properly trained new operator may have not correctly engaged the Bowden cable pin inside the internal door handles.”

What that means is the door handles inside the cabin can fail with no prior warning. This potentially creates a dangerous situation for the occupants in case of an emergency.
