It’s only April, and LGBT Pride Month is still weeks away, but several celebrities have already broken their silence to share their true rainbow colours with the world

We’re still several weeks away from LGBT Pride Month – June – but this year has already welcomed several notable celebrities coming out and celebrating their sexuality on social media platforms from Twitter to Instagram.

The list of out and proud names gets longer each year, and 2020 already has some noteworthy celebrities being added to it. Here are the stars who have publicly announced they are LGBTQ+ this year.

She first appeared on the silver screen as Ruby in the extremely controversial drama, Kids (1995), and has since acted in more than 100 films, but the 40-year-old actress and political activist did not come out until February this year – and, in fact, has not been public about how she identifies. “People kept saying that I [came out] … I didn’t do that,” she said to Bustle. “I mean, it’s not inaccurate, but I never did come out come out. I mean, I guess I am now.”

Jameela Jamil

The co-star of The Good Place added a rainbow flag to her Twitter feed years before she announced she was queer. The gorgeous 34-year-old British model, radio announcer and founder of platform I Weigh (which celebrates body positivity and self-worth) said she was scared of the backlash she might face if she came out.

“Twitter is brutal,” said the actress, who is still believed to be in a long-term relationship with musician James Blake. “This is why I never officially came out as queer … I kept it low because I was scared of the pain of being accused of performative bandwagon-jumping over something that caused me a lot of confusion, fear and turmoil when I was a kid.”
