This season, though, is all about stockings. Marc Jacobs is offering lace and silk stockings paired with open-toe shoes and short dresses with ruffles. The most impressive look from the brand is a lilac-and-canary organza sculpted dress cinched at the waist, paired with vibrant, woven stockings and open-toe shoes in a gold hue. The stockings create an illusion of continuity that is striking. There is an impressive pair of sandals paired with socks. This style also comes in an ankle-boot version for less of a ninja-type feel. Wear these with hot pants or a flowing skirt.

Floral motifs dominate at Giuseppe Zanotti – it offers a pair of slippers fastened with gold, oversized leather petals. Zanotti’s shoes have never been known for subtlety, but these open-toe party slippers take the game to a new level. Wear these flamboyant slippers with a maxi dress.

Open-toe is definitely back this season, so make sure you get a good pedicure before going on your idyllic resort getaway. Versace has a pair of green snakeskin slippers, with a sculptural twisting vine wrapping the feet and the ankles that would go perfectly with a jungle print dress. The mix of a botanical motif and a serpent structure makes us think Donatella Versace was inspired by the Garden of Eden in this collection. The brand has also created stockings and pointed-toe heels with floral prints in neon colours. Pair them with a minidress.

Bottega Veneta similarly has a spiralling touch on its footwear. The pretty paprika-coloured sandals exude a sassy vibrancy and the spiralling ankle strap with a golden tip gives the sandals a high-fashion allure. Also available are a pair of sandals with the brand’s signature Intrecciato woven straps. It would not be Bottega without a bit of weaving, and the work done on these beauties cannot be replicated anywhere else.

How Chinese luxury brands are making fashion and beauty eco-friendly

Things are getting a bit fuzzier at Loewe with its pair of pastel fur slip-ons that have a cosy, loungy, nonchalant vibe. After all, the point of luxury is having free time to relax without any worries. That is the message these slides convey, so you can wear them with sweatpants for a full-on streetwear vibe. For sharp contrast, pair them with a suit.
