Bearing two of the biggest Hollywood superstars’ last names, Maddox Jolie-Pitt was never going to live under the radar. The eldest son of A-listers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Maddox turns 19 in August.
Brangelina – as the media and public swiftly dubbed the high profile couple – seized the world’s attention with their fiery romance and heart-warming blended family life, before shocking us all when they announced their divorce.

Though his world-famous parents made every effort to guard his privacy and shield him from the media frenzy surrounding their relationship, Maddox has been in the public eye for pretty much all his life.

Maddox wasn’t born Maddox
In what is unarguably one of the most famous adoptions in Hollywood history, Maddox became Angelina Jolie’s first child in 2002. When the Tomb Raider actress adopted Maddox from an orphanage in Battambang, Cambodia, his name wasn’t Maddox. Born Rath Vibol, Maddox was some seven months old at the time of his highly publicised adoption.

He has a foundation named after him
In Maddox’s honour, and because she fell in love with his homeland and its people, Angelina set up the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
Established as a philanthropic endeavour, the foundation aids impoverished Cambodian communities, supports female empowerment and works to preserve Cambodia’s natural heritage, including its wildlife and wilderness.

Although he was adopted by Pitt soon after the Brangelina affair began, Maddox has reportedly been estranged from his dad since around 2016 when the couple split. Brad was accused of being aggressive toward his son on a private plane.

Recently however, it’s been reported that Brad made an effort to reconcile with Maddox, ostensibly missing out on the Baftas awards ceremony because of family obligations. Despite this, it’s still not clear whether their relationship has been patched up.
