Grace Kelly’s granddaughter Jazmin Grace Grimaldi found out she was a royal descendant aged 14 – just like Anne Hathaway’s character in Disney classic Princess Diaries

In a real-life fairy tale freakishly reminiscent of Disney’s made-up Mia Thermopolis, played by Anne Hathaway, Palm Spring-born teenager Jazmin Grace Grimaldi was revealed to be Albert II, Prince of Monaco’s daughter – and therefore Grace Kelly’s granddaughter – at the age of 14
In 2001, Disney’s beloved hit film The Princess Diaries hit the screens, thrilling girls everywhere who dreamed of being a princess. Based on the novel of the same name, Mia Thermopolis (played by Anne Hathaway) is an awkward teenager who discovers she’s a princess and heir to the throne of Genovia.
For 14-year-old Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, this film might have felt more like a documentary than Hollywood fairy tale – as it’s exact the same thing that happened to her. In 2006, Prince Albert II of Monaco confirmed he was the teenager’s father.
Let’s take a look back at Jazmin’s Princess Diaries moment.
Jazmin’s mother met Prince Albert while on holiday
In 1991, American Tamara Rotolo met Prince Albert II when she visited the French Riviera. The two had an intimate relationship and when Tamara became pregnant, she decided to raise Jazmin alone in California, away from the royal spotlight.
It wasn’t until Jazmin was 11 years old that she first visited her father’s tiny principality.
Jazmin became a paparazzi target at a young age
Prince Albert’s daughter was 14 years old when media outlets started bombarding her with questions about her royal identity.
