Mukesh Ambani’s business, Reliance Jio, just became the title sponsor of the Women’s T20 Challenge 2020. Nita called the move progressive, explaining in a statement that she wants to see women’s cricket grow in India.

A big believer in India’s progress, especially in sport, she has even set her heart on India hosting the Olympics and the Fifa World Cup at a date in the not-too-distant future.

“We have never had an Olympic Games presence in India. We are number five in GDP. We have seen Games going to Tokyo, Australia and Japan but never come to India,” she said in an interview according to Business Insider. “My dream is to start little by little, and realise this dream for the generations to come.”

But what does it mean?

So what does having the Ambani name backing the challenge mean in real terms? Pundits called the decision a motivation for young girls in India, showing to them that they have a future in sport in the country.
