Euro 2020: who is England’s highest-paid player? From Harry Kane to Raheem Sterling, the national football team’s 10 richest stars, ranked by net worth

It may be all tears and recriminations in the England football camp today, after the national team were heartbreakingly denied the Euro 2020 trophy, losing to Italy on penalties at Wembley Stadium late on Sunday night. It marked the team’s first major tournament final in 55 years, and a well-deserved result for a squad that is likely to go down in the history books.

But there’s one title no one can take away – the most expensive team in the tournament. According to pre-kick-off estimates, the 26-member squad is collectively worth an eye-watering US$1.63 billion to the teams they play for.

While they may be hot commodities on the transfer market, that’s not the same thing as a monthly pay packet. So how much of that wealth do the players actually see themselves, and who is worth the most?

Here’s STYLE’s list of the top 10 highest earners in the Euro 2020 England squad.

Raheem Sterling – US$52.8 million

Earning more than US$417,000 per week for his contract with Manchester City, Sterling is probably the highest-paid native player of England’s Premier League. Sterling previously had a sponsorship deal with Nike, featuring in various advertisement campaigns for the shoemaker. In May 2021, he signed up with American sports footwear brand New Balance.

And spending it? Sterling is no stranger to extravagant living, as per The Sun, he reportedly bought a US$4.1 million mansion with five luxurious bedrooms and three garages. His net worth is estimated at US$52.8 million.

Harry Kane – US$46 million

Captain of the England team, Harry Kane is worth around US$46 million, as per The Mirror. He signed a six-year contract with the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, which runs until 2024 and nets him a cool US$278,000 a week. Kane also rakes in the moolah though his tie-ups with brands like Nike, Hugo Boss and Cadbury, using and showcasing their products to his 11 million Instagram followers. He currently rents a lavish house in London, worth US$23.6 million, where he lives with his wife and three children.

Luke Shaw – US$44 million

The 26-year old left-back Luke Shaw pulls in over US$205,000 per week, and is ranked eighth as far as wages at Manchester United go. Shaw endorses Adidas and is expected to earn extremely well from the deal.

With his fortune, Shaw generously showers his friends and families with lavish gifts on special occasions. He spent more than US$17,000 on Christmas gifts for Manchester United staff, as per The Sun. He is reportedly worth US$44 million according to Sports Virsa.

Jordan Henderson – US$34.8 million

Midfielder and Liverpool FC captain Jordan Henderson gets a weekly salary of nearly US$194,000, per LFC Globe. Henderson was instrumental in the Players Together initiative that encouraged professional footballers to donate to the NHS. He was made an MBE in recognition of his services to charity in June 2021. The Mirror reports that Henderson is worth US$34.7 million.

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker pockets a cool US$152,000 per week, as per Spotrac, an online sports team and player contract website. That makes him one of the best-paid players in the club with a net worth of about US$35 million per Owogram. British tabloids claim Walker owns a US$5 million house in Cheshire with six bedrooms, a swimming pool and a five-a-side football pitch.

Centre back for Manchester United, Harry Maguire earns around US$263,000 per week, per Spotrac. The Man U captain has a net worth of more than US$34 million, according to wtfoot.com, and is famous for his reckless spending – such as paying US$87,000 for a fun night at a high-end bar, or renting a US$29,000-per-week villa to hold a party for his family and friends, both adventures reported by The Sun.

The 23 -year-old Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford made his debut on The Sunday Times’ 2001 rich list with a fortune of US$22 million. He’s the fourth-highest paid player in the club, pulling in US$277,693 a week, as per spotrac. Rashford has become an important player in the England side as well as for his club, enabling him to amass more than US$22 million. His contract with MUFC expires in 2023.

Ben Chilwell – US$19.6 million

Ben Chilwell started his career at the young age of 12 with the Leicester City academy in 2009. He was on contract with The Foxes until 2024, but switched to Chelsea in an eye-popping deal worth nearly US$70 million in 2020, as reported by The Times. Spotrac says he receives a weekly salary of around US$264,000. And thanks to his thriving professional career, Chilwell is estimated to have a net worth of US$19.6 million.

Jack Grealish has been a dedicated Aston Villa player his entire career and is paid over US$166,000 per week, as per Spotrac, which also makes him the club’s highest paid. The Mirror reports that Manchester City has lined up a US$140 million deal to acquire the Aston Villa star. Quite different from his mates, despite his wealth, Grealish maintains a more modest lifestyle and refrains from sharing his home life on social media.

Jadon Sancho, the rising star of Borussia Dortmund, is set to be transferred to Manchester United. The Sun reports he will become the club’s second-highest earner, grossing a monstrous weekly salary of US$486,000. The 21-year-old has dazzled his fans with his magnificent dribbling skill, extraordinary acceleration, and explosive handling of one-on-one situations.
