Red Velvet celebrates 7 years with a new comeback album ... but what have K-pop idols Wendy, Yeri, Irene, Joy and Seulgi been up to during their 10-month hiatus?
Why is ‘genderless’ fashion the K-pop style statement of the moment?
On July 25, Red Velvet surprised fans by dropping a throwback video starring all five members. This was the beginning of their promotional archive project “Queens Mystic General Store”, which led up to their seventh anniversary.
As we celebrate seven years of Red Velvet and eagerly await the group’s comeback album, let’s have a look at what the rest of its members have been up to in the meantime …

Seulgi
Seulgi has been named a global brand ambassador for luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo, which is not surprising considering her model-like aura and physique. She is the first K-pop idol to ever be an ambassador for the brand, which has described her as someone who “embodies the lightheartedness of youth with her unique sense of style, passion for her craft and creativity, well reflecting the values long espoused by Salvatore Ferragamo”.

Wendy
Although Wendy is the most low-key member on social media, she has been actively connecting with fans and building a bigger fan base on the radio. She is the new DJ for famous nighttime radio show Young Street on SBS, which runs from 8pm to 10pm (KST) daily.

Joy
Joy has been keeping her fans in the loop through social media, posting about all her latest outfits and endeavours. In May, she came out with her first solo EP, “Hello”, consisting of six tracks – all remakes of hit Korean songs from the late 1990s and early 2000s. The retro vibes, along with Joy’s striking voice, sent the record’s popularity soaring.
Joy also rocked it as the face of Italian luxury brand Tod’s campaign, “In Our Shoes – Seoul”, gracefully dancing in Tod’s Tabs Sneakers. She offered fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse by uploading vlogs of her campaign rehearsals to Red Velvet’s official YouTube channel, too.

Not enough Joy for you? She most recently confirmed she’ll be acting again, starring alongside Hospital Playlist star Ahn Eun-jin in a new K-drama, Only One Person. The series is expected to roll out at the end of this year.
Yeri
Meanwhile, Red Velvet’s youngest member or maknae, Yeri, is currently starring in a fantasy romance web drama Blue Birthday, which started airing on July 23. In the show, she plays Oh Ha-rin, who is still grappling with the death of her first love 10 years ago. Blue Birthday is available on YouTube, Facebook and V App.
Aside from her showbiz work, Yeri has apparently been cultivating a passion for Pilates, posting frequently about her workouts on social media.
