Here are the five new films premiering in June that we’re most excited about. Spiderhead – on Netflix June 17 Netflix summarises the plot as: “A prisoner in a state-of-the-art penitentiary begins to question the purpose of the emotion-controlling drugs he’s testing for a pharmaceutical genius.” Elvis – in cinemas June 24 According to Warner Bros: “A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis ’ (Austin Butler) story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’ life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge) .” Hustle: Adam Sandler in Netflix’s NBA-set underdog drama The Black Phone – in cinemas June 24 According to the film’s trailer on YouTube: “Director Scott Derrickson returns to his terror roots and partners again with the foremost brand in the genre, Blumhouse, with a new horror thriller. Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.” Lightyear – in cinemas June 17 “The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy,” according to the description on YouTube. “ Lightyear follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.” 8 Chinese films on Netflix in February with Fan Bingbing, Hu Ge and more Jurassic World: Dominion – in cinemas June 10 The sixth film in the Jurassic Park franchise, and directed by Jurassic World ’s Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. According to YouTube: “Dinosaurs now live – and hunt – alongside humans all over the world.
