Where to see Christmas decorations in Hong Kong: 8 best festive mall displays, from Cantopop star Serrini’s Times Square shows to Santa’s workshop at IFC, and even an AR sleigh ride at Pacific Place
Here’s our pick of glittering installations to check out – all currently on display and in place throughout the entire month of December.
1. Mrs Claus Bakery at Landmark
Santa isn’t the only one with a team of helpers – Mrs Claus has enlisted 80 pairs of extra hands to create a range of sweet treats at the Landmark-based bakery’s Christmas installation. Digital experiences include the chance to design your own avatar, and send own AR Christmas e-card or share a series of festive WhatsApp stickers. Landmark is also hosting a range of on-site activities, including the chance to step inside its giant gingerbread house and the endless photo opportunities that promises. Tickets for on-site experiences can be reserved online, with proceeds from ticket sales supporting charity partners of the Hongkong Land Home Fund.
2. Love, Christmas at K11 Musea
There are more than 180 festive offerings in store at K11 Musea’s harbourfront affair. Golden Christmas trees line the area, while a gilded merry-go-round takes centre stage at the sculpture park. From curated shopping experiences to festive dining options and a fashion exhibition co-presented with London’s V&A museum, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Don’t miss the Christmas village pop-up market, and Hong Kong’s first-ever outdoor ice rink, plus the chance to win a BMW i4 M50 Gran Coupé, valued at more than HK$750,000.
12 must-watch films on Netflix in December, from Bullet Train to Sr.
3. UniChristmas at Harbour City
This Christmas, Harbour City transforms its Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront space into a festive affair themed around a unicorn merry-go-round. A 10-metre Christmas tree stands proudly in the Ocean Terminal forecourt, while the six merry-go-rounds each boast distinctive designs. The largest of these is accompanied by five suspended Christmas trees and a series of stars dangling from the ceiling.
A charity photography zone is operated on a donation basis and offers picture-perfect moments as mementos from your visit, while opportunities for retail therapy abound at a charity sale of unicorn-themed ornaments, trinkets and more. There’s even a unicorn-themed fruit yogurt available at the adjacent Star Ferry pier.
4. Christmas on Parade at Pacific Place
5. Santa Claus Village at IFC
There’s a lot of debate among the Nordic countries about Santa’s true origins, but Rovaniemi in the Finnish portion of Lapland is known to be his official, recognised home. And this year, Rovaniemi comes straight from the Arctic Circle to Hong Kong, giving kids the chance to visit Santa’s workshop in person at the atrium in IFC.
Transformed into a Nordic winter wonderland, the installation is complete with a bakery, an elf workshop hosting a range of interactive games, a post office where you can write and send Christmas letters to loved ones, and most importantly, the chance to sit with Santa himself.
