Guests had a flashback through time in the first immersive fashion exhibition in Hong Kong. In celebration of its newly renovated Central flagship store, JOYCE presented the three-day exhibition “The Golden Needle”. The exhibition showcased iconic fashion pieces by designers and artisans throughout the retailer’s 46-year history.
Through the set designed by Emmy award-winning production designer Joseph Bennett with fashion direction led by Olivier Châtenet, style and historic consultant for the César award-winning movie “Saint Laurent”, guests went on a journey through the mind of a fictional JOYCE alter-ego, The Tailor. Accompanied by a cocktail party, the exhibition drew guests including fashion designers Dries Van Noten, Phillip Lim, Haider Ackermann, Rick Owens, Paola Novone, William Tang and celebrities such as Sammi Cheng and Josephine Siao.

How do you feel to be invited by JOYCE today?
Joyce invited me to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony today. Since 1970s when I started to have my own savings, I bought clothes from JOYCE. Joyce Ma’s husband and I were elementary school classmates. Even though the company has changed hands, but they show so much care and still donate to the foundation that I founded.
You look so happy today. What is the good news?
I just got a granddaughter [in addition to] my first grandson. She is so adorable. It’s so much fun to play with her. They are in Hong Kong but I seldom take them out in order to protect their privacy. Every time she comes to my home, I always prepare a present for her.
How would you celebrate your 70th birthday?
After all these years, I don’t think I would celebrate. I just want to stay healthy and save more time for my grandchildren.
