‘Fei Fei’ died 10 years ago today after a lengthy battle with liver cancer

Ten years ago, on February 19, 2008, one of Hong Kong’s most popular comedian actresses and emcee stars Lydia Shum Din-ha – affectionately known as “Fei Fei”, literally “Fat Fat” or “Fatty” – died at the age of 62, after a lengthy battle with liver cancer. 

Throughout five decades of a spectacular career in showbiz, she brought happiness to people of all ages. Although we can no longer see her on the silver screen during the Lunar New Year, her laughter and positive mind remain etched in our hearts. Take a trip down memory lane with these rarely seen images from SCMP’s archive, which record the adorable faces of our forever ‘happy fruit’.
