Who made the best and worst dressed list at the 55th Golden Horse Awards in Taipei?
Dubbed the “Chinese Oscars”, the 55th edition of the Golden Horse Film Festival took place in Taipei at the weekend, with a red carpet heaving with heavyweight celebrities.
We look at who dressed to impress at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and who fell out of style at the awards created to recognise and celebrate excellence in Chinese-language cinema.
The perpetually fashionable Andy Lau looked sharp as usual in a black tuxedo by Ermenegildo Zegna Couture.
One of the favourites was the glitzy red outfit from Alberta Ferretti Haute Couture Fall 2018 collection worn by Chinese actress Xu Qing.
She shone with confidence and coolness in the power suit, while the Piaget Rose collection accessories added a feminine touch.
As for the worst, it has to go to actor Si Pangoyod.
The 14-year-old appeared on the red carpet in a vest and underwear, a traditional outfit of the Tao people from the tiny outlying Orchid Island of Taiwan.
Although it was cute to promote the native culture, he did stretch the dress code rules.
Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu dazzled in a red satin mermaid gown by designer Zac Posen, matched with an attention-stealing necklace, a replica of the one Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Hong Kong celebrity Carina Lau looked sexy in a fully beaded gown embellished with Swarovski crystals in the shades of blue and gold, designed by Atelier Versace.
The outfit was gorgeously complemented with the Cartier Panthere High Jewellery collection.
Gong Li’s evening gown, from Givenchy’s spring/summer 2019 collection was not her best choice when considering the simple white shirt and black skirt look at Cannes in 1993.
Deng Chao wore a custom-made Brioni suit, while wife Sun Li looked elegant in a Armani Privé black silk velvet dress adorned with champagne-colour silk lamé crêpe.
Taiwanese actress Gwei Lun-mei appeared youthful and captivating in a black deep plunging neckline gown from the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2017 collection.
Zhou Xun also elected a dress from Haute Couture house Chanel’s Spring 2017 collection.
And although the vintage design was delightful, the dress had creased by the time she posed for photographs.
Hong Kong actress Kara Hui was amiable in a red floral dress by Italian label Dolce & Gabbana paired with US$500,000 worth of jewellery from Piaget.
Zhang Yimou, who won the Best Director award for Shadow, mastered sophisticated charm in a black Chinese tunic suit.
