3 things you didn’t know about BTS’ Jin as the K-pop star turns 27

Jin, or Kim Seok-jin, is a member of K-pop band BTS.

If you do not know Jin from K-pop boy band BTS very well, you may never have heard that he is a warm-hearted, talented and funny guy who always tells dad jokes.

As Kim Seok-jin celebrates his 27th birthday on Wednesday, December 4, we take a look at three things you may not know about the oldest member and vocalist of BTS.

A talented and hardworking vocalist

Since BTS released its US breakthrough single Fake Love last year, the band has become an international phenomenon, kick-starting a global craze for all things Korean.

The group snatched the Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist title in 2018, and topped the Billboard US World Digital Songs chart.

As one of the band’s four vocalists, Jin had little experience in singing and dancing before joining the band.

But right now, because of his hard work, he has honed his skills and become one of the icons in the septet.

Late last year, BTS solidified their border-crossing credentials when they teamed up with American producer Steve Aoki for their first English song Waste It on Me.

A background in acting

Jin studied acting at Konkuk University in Seoul, and while still in school, he was spotted by South Korean entertainment company Big Hit Entertainment and invited for an audition, paving the way for his role in BTS.

In 2016, Jin co-produced the solo track Awake for BTS’ album Wings, which also comes with a melancholic short film starring Jin himself.

The ‘car door guy’

Jin is considered one of the “visualists” in the septet because of his attractive appearance.

In 2015, when the boy band were attending the Melon Music Awards, Jin was pictured getting out of their car.

That night, Jin’s photos went viral online where he was referred to as the “car door guy”.

Jin and food

When mukbang, or livestreams about someone eating, started to become trendy in early 2010s in South Korea, Jin jumped on the bandwagon and started filming his video series “Eat Jin.”

Apart from eating, Jin also cooks for other BTS band members.

It is also reported that he and his elder brother opened a Japanese restaurant called Ossu Seiromushi in Seoul’s Songpa-gu district.
