Song Joong-ki, the K-drama actor, will be hosting South Korea’s annual Mnet Asian Music Awards – or simply MAMA – ceremony in Hong Kong on Friday.
Here are 5 things you should know about the 33-year-old South Korean heartthrob before he graces our city with his deliciously deep voice and gentlemanly demeanour.
1. One half of K-drama’s Song-Song ‘royal couple’

If you know Song, then you will also know about his wife, South Korean actress Song Hye-kyo.
The couple were married on October 31, 2017, after co-starring in the mega-hit television series. Descendants of the Sun, about doctors falling in love in a fictional war zone.
The on-screen couple were rumoured to have off-screen chemistry as well, culminating in the announcement that they were engaged. #SongSong
2. He is a devoted husband
Local media reported that Song rejected several roles so that he could spend more time with his new bride.
Most notably, Song turned down Kingdom, screenwriter Kim Eun-hee’s forthcoming Netflix original television drama series, reportedly because his wife was pregnant.
As if you needed more evidence that Song is the perfect hubby, this dependable Virgo has an Insta-feed covered with candid photographs of him and his lady-love, including exclusive images from their wedding – the K-drama-land event of the year.
3. His 2010 breakthrough came as an 18th-century playboy
The fusion historical drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal saw Song in the role of a Joseon-era playboy named Goo Yong-ha.
Since then, he’s stacked up an impressive list of roles in K-drama television series, including leading roles in The Innocent Man and, of course, Descendants of the Sun.
4. He will next star in ‘The Chronicles of Aseudal’
Song will play Eun Som, a cursed child who later becomes the conqueror of the fictional empire of Aseudal.
Of course, we have a classic K-drama love triangle featuring the stunning Kim Ji-won and Kim OK-vin. Things are about to get steamy in this fantasy land.

The event is part of the wider “MAMA week”, which is also taking place at venues in South Korea and Japan.
This year’s 2018 MAMA ceremony is particularly significant as it represents the 10th anniversary of the awards – and the third time they have been hosted in Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo.
Internationally renowned K-pop boy band BTS will be performing in both Japan and Hong Kong.
There is also talk of American singer Janet Jackson making an appearance at one or more of the shows.
