‘Crazy Rich Asians’ jeweller Michelle Ong cherishes gift of time with family at Christmas

Michelle Ong

Michelle Ong has two passion in life: her own haute jewellery brand, Carnet, and her charity First Initiative Foundation (FIF).

Ong’s timeless bespoke pieces have featured in hit films such as Crazy Rich Asians and Da Vinci Code . Taking cues from the art world, she has just created a new jewellery piece inspired by the painting Brera Madonna by Piero della Francesca at the world-famous Brera Museum in Milan.

Lately I’ve been ... focusing on my Thames and Hudson deluxe volume Carnet by Michelle Ong, launching in 2019, a fantastic FIF “Art of Music” charitable initiative in December and, of course, the holidays.

To me, Christmas means ... family, friends, festivity and glorious food.

This Christmas, my wish list includes … the gift of time to spend with my family in a special place.

My favourite place to spend Christmas is ... Paris – it is a beautiful city, it has fabulous dining, memorable art and fashion, and [I have many] good friends there.

My favourite Christmas memory ... was a lovely holiday when all my children gave me handmade cards and presents. It was such a sweet surprise. I still treasure those gifts.

My top holiday fashion/travel tip is ... to know your social schedule and plan accordingly.

I love to take perfectly tailored selections in black and neutrals. I change the look with my choice of jewellery to accessorise. It adds the perfect holiday sparkle.

My New Year’s resolution is ... “work less, enjoy more” – I’ll try, but I think it’s hard for me to achieve.
