Grammys’ secrets of Lady Gaga’s platinum-blonde soft waves and Jennifer Lopez’s ponytail revealed
Hairstylists took inspiration from rock star culture to create the look for the ‘A Star is Born’ actress and from the Wild West for Lopez’s big-brimmed hat
Soft. That is a description every woman would want for their hair and, lest you think that soft means flyaways and split ends, think again.
Take your cue from the ever avant-garde American trendsetter Lady Gaga and her compatriot Jennifer Lopez, whose glamorous appearances on the red carpet at Sunday’s 61st Grammy Awards got all of us ogling – and wishing we had hair that looked like theirs.
Rock star inspiration
Well, help is at hand. We grilled celebrity hairstylist Frederic Aspiras of ghd, who did Lady Gaga’s peroxide blonde tresses, for the mane info.
Aspiras says for inspiration he turned to the rock star culture and, of course, Ally, the character that Lady Gaga plays in the film A Star is Born, in which she co-stars with Bradley Cooper.

“First, apply heat protectant to the hair and brush using ghd detangling comb to evenly distribute the product to each section.
“[Divide] hair into four sections. Next, I grabbed my ghd air hairdryer and ghd paddle brush to blow-dry hair downwards leaving minimal volume at root.
“Then, I created two types of waves/curls by using two different irons. The first iron I used was the ghd platinum+ styler to create wide flat ‘S’ waves throughout the hair. I then used the ghd curve soft curl tong to ‘curl and slide’ the hair to create a different type of wave/curl.
