Amazon, which will be launching a new re: MARS conference in June, which is open to the public – has been busy preparing for this week’s invitation-only event, MARS.
One early photograph taken at the event, posted by astrophysicist Dr Chiara Mingarelli, shows her selfie being “photobombed” by actor Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films.
The MARS conference normally takes place each year in the third week of March in Palm Springs, California.
Amazon said this year’s MARS gathering – which stands for Machine learning, home Automation, Robotics, and Space exploration – will be a similar experience to past events.
Photographer Ric Miller, who lives next to the hotel where the event takes place, reported seeing logos of Blue Origin – Bezos’ rocket company – appearing around the site last week.

Miller also saw a solar-powered sailing drone, known as the Saildrone, being brought in on a trailer.
