STYLE Edit: How travel brought LeBron James and Rimowa together

The Los Angeles Lakers player discusses ‘purposeful travel’ and his experience as one of three icons to feature in Rimowa’s ‘Never Still’ campaign films
As part of Rimowa’s “Never Still” global campaign, the luxury luggage brand is unveiling three impactful films that feature three icons in their particular fields: Kim Jones, artistic director of Dior Homme; Yuja Wang, international pianist; and LeBron James, the legendary NBA player.
The films spark a conversation about “purposeful travel” and the legacies that these three individuals have created in their astounding careers.
LeBron James, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, is featured in a campaign film shot by director Philippe Tempelman. The film follows the basketball player’s physical and symbolic journey in Los Angeles as one of the foremost athletes in the world.
In addition to reflecting on James’ legacy as one of the best basketball players of all time, the campaign takes into account his philanthropic efforts in his hometown of Akron in Ohio, where his foundation initiated a public school education project.
We spoke to James about the Rimowa partnership, his constant travelling, and his work with underprivileged youth at the I Promise School.
What was it like working with Philippe Tempelman and being part of Rimowa’s ‘Never Still’ icons?
It’s an honour for me to be a part of the next wave of this campaign. When the concept for the icon film came to me, I really connected with it because I live it day in and day out. Working with Philippe to bring it all to life was great. He had a vision that I loved and it was a collaborative experience that I’m excited for people to see.
How did the Rimowa-LeBron partnership come about?
