Meet Christie Brinkley’s lookalike model daughter, Sailor Brinkley Cook: this stylish Gen Zer has walked for Dolce & Gabbana and was in a ‘Got Milk?’ style ad with Brooklyn Beckham and Myles O’Neal
25-year-old Sailor is the daughter of former Sports Illustrated model Brinkley and architect Peter Cook, who were married from 1996 until 2008. She was born via IVF when Brinkley was 44, per Harper’s Bazaar, and has two half siblings – Alexa Ray Joel (from Brinkley’s relationship with Billy Joel) and Jack Paris Brinkley Cook (Brinkley’s son with ex-husband Richard Taubman).
That’s only the start of her fascinating life. Here’s what else you need to know about Sailor Brinkley Cook.
She grew up outside the big city
“When I moved to the city after high school I came to appreciate my upbringing out here even more,” she told James Lane Post. “It really shaped me to always maintain a down-to-earth, grounded mentality no matter what happens in my life,” she added.
Following in mum’s model footsteps
Sailor first signed with IMG Models, the same agency that represents her famous mum, back in 2013, per Teen Vogue. Since then she has walked the runway for luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, and even strutted in the same show as her mum at New York Fashion Week in 2019, giving her a high five as they passed each other.
Sailor did her own “milk” advert
Earlier this year, Sailor starred in Silk Nextmilk’s plant-based drinks campaign – a nod to her mother Christie’s iconic “Got Milk?” advert from the 90s where she sported a white milky moustache.
Speaking about her advert, Sailor said: “It’s the next generation. I am proud to be a part of it, I love this opportunity.”
Sailor told People magazine: “I think those [Got Milk?] ads are so iconic, and bringing that into this new world of being plant-based and having these amazing alternatives is so fun.”
“I think my mum is also so iconic, so anything that I can do in my life to make her proud is exciting to me,” she told the publication.
She’s open about body and mental health issues
In 2020, Sailor caused concern on Instagram when she revealed her struggles with her body image. “I’ve been so down on myself recently,” she wrote. “Crying about my cellulite, letting the fat on my body ruin my day, getting mad that I’m not as skinny as I once was. The body dysmorphia and left over eating disorder tendencies have been coming in strong.”
She later told ABC News that she first developed an eating disorder when she began her modelling career at age 15.
“I was looking up at all these major figures in modelling that are size double zero and they’ve got these thin legs and these tiny waists,” she said. “I was seeing them being so celebrated by everyone everywhere and being wanted by all the boys and all that greatness that comes around being this tiny supermodel. And I wanted that.”
She came to her mum’s rescue on DWTS
In 2019, mum Christie was a contestant on America’s Dancing with the Stars when disaster struck and she broke her arm. Instead of Brinkley pulling out of the show, Sailor joined the competition and filled in for her mother instead.
Replacing Brinkley just three days before the show’s premiere, Sailor was partnered with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy and placed 9th on the show.
