Kylie Minogue’s comeback: summer anthem ‘Padam Padam’ and her new Las Vegas residency put her back in the spotlight – but remember when Kylie Jenner tried to trademark their shared first name?

- Kylie Minogue has unexpectedly made a musical comeback this year with her summer anthem ‘Padam Padam’ – which charted internationally – off her 16th studio album, Tension
- The Australian singer has faced plenty of challenges over the years, including battling Kylie Jenner’s attempt to trademark the name Kylie, and breaking up with beau Paul Solomons earlier this year
As the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time, having sold over 80 million records worldwide, Kylie Minogue is a force to be reckoned with. But it hasn’t always been a smooth ride for the 55-year-old songstress. Over the years, Minogue has had her fair share of struggles, from failed relationships and album flops to a breast cancer battle in her mid-30s that played out in front of the world.
Fortunately, the Aussie pop princess managed to not only bounce back, but also thrive in terms of health, wealth and career.
Kylie Minogue’s musical comeback

Minogue released her debut album Kylie back in 1988, and has seen varying success in the music charts over the years. While her popularity seemed to flatline towards the late 90s, it was 2000’s Light Years and 2001’s Fever that revived her career thanks to hits like “On a Night Like This” and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”. And while she’s certainly done pretty well for herself since then, it was her 16th studio album, 2023’s Tension, that skyrocketed the singer back into the charts and gave her the unexpected international comeback that nobody saw coming.
Her latest hit single “Padam Padam” not only charted globally, but also became her first UK top 10 hit since 2010. The song also charted on America’s Billboard dance/electronic song chart – a first for Minogue in a territory she’s long struggled to crack. So it comes as no surprise that “Padam Padam” has made it onto lists of songs of summer 2023 – certainly an accomplishment for somebody so far down the line in their career.
Vegas, baby!

“It feels like the right time,” Minogue told Music Week. “It’s something a bit different for me and it’s something different for Vegas.”
The bright lights of Vegas are a far cry from the success Minogue had in territories like the UK and Australia, so she is understandably nervous about the big commitment. “It has been overwhelming,” she continued in the Music Week interview. “My ticket anxiety is real. I have a lot of shows where I have ticket anxiety and particularly this one. It’s such an intimate venue and I’m hoping people can get their tickets. But overall, it’s super-exciting.”
