Celebs are just like us! Well, sort of …

While it might appear that their days are a constant parade of private jets, limousines and round-the-clock personal chefs, the truth is that they do enjoy these luxuries – but they’re not a 24/7 occurrence.

Because sometimes you might bump into them in public places doing a “normal” commute, just like us. After all, we can all appreciate that during rush hours and the subsequent traffic gridlock, taking the subway can be a practical choice for a quicker journey.

From a billionaire’s supermodel wife to Hollywood actors and hotel heiresses, here are 10 A-listers who have been spotted taking the London tube or the New York subway:

1. Karlie Kloss

Just last month, the former Victoria’s Secret model was spotted riding the New York subway for a meeting near Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan, per British media.

However, being one of the most famous faces in the fashion industry and the wife of billionaire Joshua Kushner, Kloss doesn’t take any risks – especially when it comes to travelling in public.

Per the same source, Taylor Swift’s ex-bestie brought her assistant and a bodyguard along with her. That’s one way not to blend in Karls, but given that crime on the New York subway has been up post pandemic, it’s perhaps better to be safe than sorry.

2. Bradley Cooper

The A Star is Born actor has been spotted on the subway on numerous occasions, but things took a turn for the worst in 2019 when he was held at knifepoint one morning, he told Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast.

“I just started booking, just started running,” he said. “I jumped over the turnstile, hid around the white tiled entrance to the subway [and] took my phone out. [The suspect] jumped over, running away. I took a photo of him. Then I chased him up the stairs. He started running up 7th Avenue.”

“My guard was down,” he added. “I realised I had gotten way, way too comfortable in this city.” Yikes!

3. Nicole Scherzinger

Back in 2015, the former frontwoman for The Pussycat Dolls hopped on board the London tube for the first time – while incognito of course. The American singer hid under a fedora and shades and documented her oh-so-adventurous experience on Instagram.

It seems that even superheroes take the subway.

The Marvel actor has become something of a regular on the underground in the Big Apple, and occasionally gets papped while doing so – though based on previous encounters, he doesn’t seem to mind – even posing for photos for one fan.

Tom Cruise’s ex-wife is also a fan of New York City’s transit service. In one of her older pics, she wore a ball gown, which probably wasn’t the best look if she didn’t want to be seen, but she’s since stepped up her incognito game with baseball caps and oversized denim jackets, as seen in photos posted earlier this year by fellow commuters. She’s also previously brought her daughter Suri Cruise along on the bustling mode of public transport.

Nicky Hilton’s subway adventure could’ve almost been a cameo in her sister Paris’ The Simple Life reality TV show. Nicky, who hails from an ultra-wealthy family and is married to fellow heir James Rothschild, posted her experience on Instagram in 2018, saying it was raining and she didn’t want to be late for an Oscar de la Renta show. She was snapped taking the train again just a year later.

7. Jay-Z

When Jay-Z, billionaire and husband to Beyoncé, rode the subway in 2012 to reach his own concert in Brooklyn, he sat next to an old lady who didn’t recognise him, and was featured in a clip that ended up going viral. “Are you famous?” the old lady asked the “Empire State of Mind” rapper. “Yes,” he said, entourage around him and all, “Not very famous, you don’t know me.”

Being a Spice Girl means you can’t get very far without being photographed wherever you are in the world. For Geri Halliwell – aka Ginger Spice – however, taking risks is all part of the fun. And so, in 2013, she took the London tube for the first time in 17 years, according to The Guardian. “It’s not smelly, just saying,” she wrote in one of her tweets about the experience.

9. Keanu Reeves

The John Wick actor is known to take the subway regularly, rather than drive or be driven, per multiple fan reports. Which is not too surprising considering his refreshingly down-to-earth personality.

The Matrix superstar has also been hailed a “true gentleman” for often giving up his seat for women while riding on the public underground.

Wait, a Kardashian-Jenner taking public transport? You best believe it, because their sometimes less-than-glamorous life is very rarely documented.
