Where is Bigi Jackson in 2023? Michael Jackson’s youngest doesn’t want to be called Blanket, wrote and directed a short film, and attended this year’s MJ tributes with siblings Prince and Paris

Born in a cloud of mystery via surrogate, Michael Jackson’s son Prince Michael Jackson II, who goes by Bigi – and was known as Blanket during his childhood – was world famous before he even knew he existed.
That all escalated in November 2002 when Blanket was only nine months old. Jackson infamously dangled him over the fourth-floor window of a Berlin hotel to cheering fans below, leading to a worldwide media frenzy. Jackson later admitted it was a “terrible mistake” and his bodyguard revealed he locked himself in his room for a day after the scandal broke.

Since then, there has been immense public interest in Bigi and his siblings. During their childhood, Jackson dressed them in various masks and veils to keep their identities hidden and give them a sense of privacy.

Following Jackson’s death in 2009, unlike his brother Prince and sister Paris, 21-year-old Bigi has largely avoided the spotlight, leading to the nickname “the invisible boy”.

Here’s what we know about Michael Jackson’s youngest in 2023 …

Born Prince Michael Jackson II on February 21, 2002, he was nicknamed Blanket by his father, who would often cover his face with a blanket in public to hide him from photographers.

In 2015 he changed his nickname to Bigi after reportedly being bullied by other children for the moniker. The news was confirmed when his school yearbook of 2015 identified him as Bigi Jackson.

He had directorial dreams from a young age

Siblings Paris and Prince have done plenty of on-screen work, but Bigi wanted to be behind the camera from a young age. During an interview for the Jacksonology: Our Story documentary in 2012, he revealed that he had dreams of becoming a director.

“Sometimes I would go in [Michael’s] room while he was getting ready for something and watch,” he said. “He was a good dancer, he was a very good dancer. I can’t dance or sing; I’m not that kind of person who sings and dances.

“When I grow up I want to be a director because it’s fun, and I make little movies when I’m at my house with cousins and friends.”

His dreams have begun to come true

He might have only been 10 years old in 2012, but Bigi’s kept to his word and has become a budding director after graduating from the Buckley School in Los Angeles, California. In February, 2293 Productions announced that Bigi had wrapped production on his short film Rochelles, which he wrote and directed.

According to IMDb, his directorial debut is based on “two friends [who] are put at odds when a prestigious restaurant makes them compete for a coveted position in its kitchen”.

It’s not Bigi’s first film credit though. Back in 2013 he produced his first feature film – a thriller called Kingdom Come by writer and director Jason Hess.

Bigi is still close to the Jackson family

In August, Bigi made a rare public appearance alongside brother Prince for the Blue Sapphire Birthday Celebration on what would have been their father’s 65th. The brothers both attended the MJ Brunch hosted in the Mandalay Bay lobby, much to the delight of their and Michael’s fans.

Vlogger Prince, 26, uploaded a video of the two of them together to his YouTube channel, saying: “This is a really awesome experience for me because it’s like a family reunion in a way. There’s a lot of familiar faces that I’ve seen from events in the past – we get to catch up and talk about different things.”

When Bigi turned 18, sister Paris shared a birthday tribute on her Instagram page, alongside personal and unseen photos of them growing up with MJ. “Proud of the handsome, intelligent, insightful, funny and kind young man he has become,” she wrote of her brother.

Bigi Jackson’s mother remains a mystery

The identity of Bigi’s biological mother, a surrogate, is still unknown, and probably always will be. Michael’s second wife, Debbie Rowe, the mother of Prince and Paris, publicly declared that she was not Bigi’s biological mother after his birth, in response to intense media speculation at the time.

After Michael passed away, Bigi went to live with his grandmother Katherine Jackson, who was given legal custody of all three children.

Being the child of Michael Jackson is lucrative, even more than a decade since his tragic death. Bigi has an estimated net worth in excess of US$100 million, with a reported yearly allowance of US$8 million, per the New York Post.

After leaving his grandmother’s home, Bigi made his first big purchase when he spent US$2.6 million on a six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom home in Los Angeles’ Calabasas neighbourhood in 2020, per CNBC.
